Austria’s Eva-Maria Brem won her first crystal globe in St Moritz after securing the women’s World Cup giant slalom title with the final run of the season.
Brem was the fastest after the opening run and only needed a fourth place finish to claim the victory in Switzerland.
And she did that by 0.05 seconds after her second time of 1:12.64 edged Canada’s Marie-Michele Gagnon into fifth, ensuring she won the crystal globe by two points.
Viktoria Rebensburg of Germany was the only other skier who could have taken the title and won the race in St Moritz with a total time of 2:26.15.
"It was an amazing fight this season in the giant slalom and to have it come down to this final race and such a small margin is unbelievable," said Brem.
"I couldn't be happier with how everything worked out today,"
France’s Taina Barioz was second this weekend after coming 0.46 behind Rebensburg and Switzerland’s Lara Gut was third today and overall.
Olympic champion Mikaela Shiffrin crashed on the opening run and had to settle for 21st in the overall standings after missing out on a fourth successive crystal globe in the discipline after missing five races because of injury.
Switzerland's Lara Gut, the new overall World Cup champion, finished third.
Rebensburg's win was not quite enough to earn her the giant slalom World Cup title:
