The 24-year-old led an all-Austrian podium on home snow to earn 100 World Cup points and move within 110 of breaking into the top five.
Mayer, who took home Downhill gold at the Sochi Winter Olympics a year ago, clocked a time of 1:49.83 to top the pile in Austria.
Max Franz was second, just 0.02 seconds behind his compatriot, with Hannes Reichelt third after completing the course in 1:50.04.
Reichelt is not far behind Mayer in the World Cup standings, with 498 points in to leave him eighth, while another Austrian, Marcel Hirscher, is still well clear at the top with 1014.
