Having triumphed at the 2013 World Championships and then going on to the claim the Olympic slalom title a year later in Sochi, all eyes were on Shiffrin in this event.
And the 19-year-old didn't disappoint, leading after the first run and holding on to top spot following the second, coming home in 1:38.48 minutes.
Shiffrin was put under intense pressure by Swede Frida Hansdotter as she posted the second fastest run, however the American held on to take the gold by 0.34 seconds.
And completing the podium with bronze was Czech Sarka Strachova as she finished with a combined time of 1:39.25 for her fourth podium finish in a World Championship slalom event.
But there was no doubting who the star of the show was, Shiffrin becoming the third woman to win back-to-back slalom world titles following Janica Kostelic and Christl Cranz, and doing so in front of her home support.
