Reigning World Cup Super G champion Tina Weirather started where she left off in the first race of the season, taking the win in Lake Louise.
With the Canadian race being the third alpine skiing meet of the season, it was the turn of Super G to take centre stage on Sunday and Weirather – the World Championship silver medallist from earlier in 2017 – beat Switzerland's Lara Gut by just 0.11s.
That made her the first skier other than Gut or Vonn to the Super G in Lake Louise, since 2009.
Austria's Nicole Schmidhofer came in a further 0.16s slower than Gut and took the bronze medal, with France's Tessa Worley in fourth and Mikaela Shiffrin fifth.
America's Lindsey Vonn failed to finish, following her crash in the downhill earlier this weekend.
The win puts Shiffrin further ahead in the overall World Cup standings, with Weirather sitting pretty atop the Super G standings after the first of eight races.
Racing continues next weekend in St Moritz, Switzerland, with two Super G runs, as well as the first Alpine Combined of the season.
