New England Patriots' defensive back Devin McCourty has become the second player from the team to say he will skip the traditional White House visit.
McCourty was part of the team that secured a historic 34-28 comeback win against the Atlanta Falcons in Superbowl LI.
Speaking directly after the game tight end Martellus Bennett told reporters that he would skip the visit to the White House that the winning team does after every Superbowl.
Speaking to TIME McCourty said "I'm not going to the White House.
"Basic reason for me is I don't feel accepted in the White House. With the president having so many strong opinions and prejudices I believe certain people might feel accepted there while others won't.
"I can't imagine a way I go there."
Whilst McCourty and Bennett - who have been active in the protests against racial and economic inequality that was first raised by San Francisco 49ers quarter-back Colin Kaepernick - would not be the first athletes to skip the visit it has been highlighted because of the relationship between President Trump and the Patriots.
In particular Trump's relationship with the owner, Robert Kraft, the coach Bill Belichick and star player Tom Brady.
