The 30-year-old was elected into the role by her fellow competitors, the latest achievement in what has been a superb 12 months having completed a career Grand Slam of medals last summer.
That came with 4x400m bronze at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games, adding to her Commonwealth, European and World Championship hauls from across her esteemed career.
The face of the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games, the hurdler has picked up even more accolades in 2017 – notably becoming the most decorated Scottish track and field athlete in history this March, following a 4x400m silver at the European Athletics Indoor Championships in Belgrade.
And with this her fifth World Championships, Doyle comes into the job at the ideal time in her career, with the allure of a home competition only adding to her jubilation.
"I'm absolutely chuffed to bits. It's a huge honour to have been elected by my peers as the team captain for British Athletics at London 2017," she said.
"To lead your team at a home World Championships is truly a once in a lifetime opportunity and to have your teammates vote that they want you to do it, makes it even more special."
Doyle follows in the footsteps of Martyn Rooney as World Championships team captain, who had the honour in Beijing 2015, while Adam Gemili took up the mantle for the 2016 Olympic Games.
At that point it was chosen by the performance director, though this time Doyle's achievement came at the hands of the other 78 British athletes heading to London early next month.
"I'm delighted for Eilidh. She's a fierce competitor and a fantastic role model for younger athletes in the team," said British Athletics performance director Neil Black.
"Eilidh is Scotland's most decorated athlete and has won a medal at all of the majors. She knows what it takes to win! That's the type of athlete and mindset we need to lead us into a home World Championships."
