The four-time Olympic champion finished second to American Garrett Heath in 2016 and is desperate to cross the finish line first this time around.
British Athletics finalise their team after the European Cross Country Championships in Chia next month, and Farah wants to be involved ahead of the defence of his 5000m and 10,000m world titles in London next year.
"Cross country events offer a perfect opportunity for me to measure my fitness and see how my training is going ahead of the 2017 track season," the 33-year-old said.
"I have made myself available for selection for the British team for this event. I placed second in this race last year and hope to go one better in 2017."
The Great Edinburgh International XCountry consists of four separate events and pits the best of Great Britain against Europe and the USA.
It will also see the International Mixed Relay return – which will see national teams of two men and two women compete in a 4x1K challenge for the Stewart Cup.
