The World Anti-Doping Agency released an independent commission report on Monday, which claims that a Moscow laboratory protected Russian athletes during the 2014 Sochi Winter Games and that widespread doping by Russian athletes at the Sochi Olympics was overseen by the country’s ministry of sport.
The IOC have confirmed they have received the report and will study the allegations before making any decisions on how to respond.
"The findings of the report show a shocking and unprecedented attack on the integrity of sport and on the Olympic Games,” IOC President Thomas Bach said. Therefore, the IOC will not hesitate to take the toughest sanctions available against any individual or organisation implicated
An official statement added: In the immediate short term, the IOC Executive Board will convene in a telephone conference tomorrow to take its first decisions, which may include provisional measures and sanctions with regard to the Olympic Games Rio 2016.”
