Clean Russian track and field athletes will appeal their Olympic ban at the Court of Arbitration for Sport, said Russian Olympic chief Aleksander Zhukov on Tuesday, adding their blanket ban was also legally "indefensible".
Zhukov was speaking at the IOC summit examining further steps to secure only clean athletes compete at the Rio de Janeiro Olympics in less than two months' time.
Russia's athletics team cannot compete in Rio after the IAAF last week upheld a suspension imposed last year.
The IOC also stated that any competitor from Russia or Kenya will need to be declared eligible by their sport's individual federation before they are cleared to take part in the Games.
The IOC added that the IAAF will be permitted to clear Russian individual athletes to compete in Rio, and that they will compete under the Russian flag rather than a neutral or Olympic flag.
