British athletics superstar Kelly Sotherton has been targeted by thieves who stole her Commonwealth heptathlon gold medal.
Sotherton, who retired in 2012 after injury prevented her from taking part at the London Olympics, enjoyed a superb career winning bronze medals in the heptathlon at the 2004 Olympics and 2007 World Championships.
But her career highlight came when she took victory in the Commonwealth Games heptathlon in Melbourne in 2006, beating friend and rival Jessica Ennis as she did so.
And it is her medal from that championship which was stolen by thieves - news that she shared via Twitter, explaining that the only thing taken in the burglary was the gold:
Fans have shared their messages of sympathy with the athlete, now 38, but as yet there is no sign of the medals being returned.
At least the athlete kept her sense of humour, referring in one message to the poor record in javelin which robbed her of more medals over her career.
