The double Olympic champion celebrates his 32nd birthday on Monday but is showing no signs of slowing down as he came around the course in Portugal in 59:32.
The run was European and British record and caps an impressive period for Farah who last month broke the indoor world record over two miles.
However, while his efforts at Birmingham's Indoor Grand Prix were spectacular this was a more battling performance for Farah who went up against a strong field and was 12 seconds off the led after eight miles.
But he chipped away at the leaders and finally took the lead in the closing stages as he passed Kenya's Micah Kemboi Kogo.
"It feels amazing, I got massive support from the crowd. It wasn't easy, the race organisers put in a great field," said Farah.
"To win here was hard but it's my birthday is tomorrow so it's a good birthday present. I feel so happy to break the British record and European record."
