Olympics Rio 2016: Omar McLeod wins 110m hurdle gold as two Europeans make podium
Updated 17/08/2016 at 12:51 GMT
The favourite cruised to gold in the men's 110m hurdles as Omar McLeod eased clear of the field.
McLeod was the standout favourite for the event and took the safety-first option with his race strategy, easing his way over the hurdles to take the tape first.
However there was a boost for European sprinting when Orlando Ortega of Spain and Dimitri Bascou of France took second and third respectively on the podium.
"I'm elated," McLeod told reporters. "The feeling is indescribable.
"Never in a million years would I have thought I would be an Olympic champion and a world champion in one year.
"Hurdles is all about character. I worked hard, prayed hard and seized the moment. I can't get my mind around this. Is this real?"
