"I'm very happy," Powell told reporters as he left the track.
"Can I run faster? I think so - we'll just have to wait and see."
Powell initially set the record in Athens on June 14th, 2005 which was equalled by Justin Gatlin in Doha on May 12th this season and equalled again by Powell in Gateshead on June 11th.
Powell had earlier said he felt confident of running close to the world record especially if drawn in his favoured fifth lane, a draw which he used to blow away a strong field that still ran above their normal limits.

Tyson Gay finished second with a personal best of 9.84, Leonard Scott third in 9.97. Marcus Brunson also ran under ten seconds, 9.99 a lifetime best for the third American in the top four.
TRIO STILL IN HUNT
The remaining three athletes in contention for the million-dollar jackpot stayed in the hunt after convincing wins.
Tirunesh Dibaba held off Isabelle Ochichi to win the 5000m while Sanya Richards blew away a lacklustre 400m field and Jeremy Wariner eased to victory in the men's event.
There was a surprise in the 1500m with Bernard Lagat kicking far too early and Augustine Choge racing through to win in a personal best of 3:32.72.
Christian Olsson continued his successful rehabilitation with gold in the Triple Jump (17.38) despite a great final round effort from Jadel Gregorio (17.35), while Kasja Bergqvist failed to win again as Venelina Veneva set a meeting record of 2.04 in the women's High Jump.
