Baseball-Highlights from MLB games on Tuesday

Dodgers 2, Cardinals 1 (13 innings)

Logan Forsythe, back from the disabled list, hit a walk-off double in the 13th inning, lifting the Los Angeles Dodgers to a 2-1 victory over the St. Louis Cardinals on Tuesday.

Yasmani Grandal homered for the Dodgers, who won for the fifth time in the past six contests. Josh Fields (1-0) retired the side in the 13th for the win.

Forsythe, who struck out four times before drawing a walk in the 11th inning, doubled off Jonathan Broxton (0-1), scoring Enrique Hernandez, who had walked. It was the first game in more than a month for Forsythe, who had been out due to fractured toe and a strained hamstring.

Dodgers starter Clayton Kershaw fanned 10, walked none and allowed three hits but did not factor into the decision. Kershaw threw a ninth-inning wild pitch that scoring the tying run for St. Louis. Cardinals starter Lance Lynn struck out 10 in eight innings of one-run ball.

Twins 2, Orioles 0

Ervin Santana went the distance for Minnesota, and Brian Dozier added a solo home run as the Twins scored a second straight victory over Baltimore.

After a slugfest in the series opener Monday -- a 14-7 Twins win -- this game belonged to the pitchers, specifically Santana and Baltimore's Dylan Bundy.

Santana (7-2) allowed a single in the second inning and another in the fifth and nothing more. He retired the final 14 batters he faced, struck out six and walked just two in his second complete game of the year, the 18th of his career.

Braves 6, Pirates 5

Matt Adams had three hits, including the game-winning single in the bottom of the ninth that gave Atlanta a come-from-behind win over Pittsburgh.

Adams was 3-for-5 with a double and a homer. His opposite-field single against Pittsburgh reliever Tony Watson (2-1) scored Nick Markakis with the winning run. Markakis had tied the game with a double that drove home Ender Inciarte.

The winning pitcher was Luke Jackson (1-0), who retired the only batter he faced.

Marlins 11, Athletics 9

Justin Bour went 4-for-5 with a home run, a double, two RBIs and four runs, leading Miami to a victory against Oakland.

The Marlins pounded out a season-high 19 hits, including three each by Dee Gordon and Giancarlo Stanton. Derek Dietrich, J.T. Realmuto and JT Riddle each had two hits. Dietrich, Gordon and Ichiro Suzuki had two RBIs apiece.

Every Marlins batter in the starting lineup had at least one hit before Oakland got a second out in the top of the third inning. Gordon already had two hits by then, including a triple, as Miami built a 7-1 lead.

Rockies 8, Phillies 2

Charlie Blackmon swatted a pair of two-run homers and Gerardo Parra added a solo shot to lead Colorado to a win over floundering Philadelphia.

Rookie German Marquez (3-2) scattered seven hits in six innings and allowed one run for the Rockies, who have won seven of their last nine to improve to 30-17, tops in the National League.

Zach Eflin (0-2) took the loss for the Phillies, who have dropped 19 of their last 23 games and have managed just three runs in their last three games.

Nationals 10, Mariners 1

Anthony Rendon was 3-for-4 with two homers, a double and five RBIs, and Joe Ross came up from Triple-A to allow one run in eight innings as Washington blasted Seattle.

Ross (2-0) entered the game with a 7.47 ERA in the majors this year. He made three starts earlier this month in the minors. The right-hander allowed just five hits and struck out six with no walks against Seattle while matching the longest outing of his career.

Royals 6, Yankees 2

Jorge Bonifacio hit a go-ahead two-run homer with two outs in the top of the seventh inning and Danny Duffy pitched seven solid innings as Kansas City rallied past New York.

Bonifacio gave the Royals a 3-2 lead by slugging the first pitch he saw from Adam Warren (1-1) into the right-center-field seats. It was Bonifacio's sixth home run and second in as many nights.

Lorenzo Cain started the comeback with a long homer off Jordan Montgomery. Whit Merrifield and Mike Moustakas added insurance with eighth-inning home runs.

Cubs 4, Giants 1

Jon Lester allowed one run on four hits and struck out a season-high 10 in a complete game -- his first of the year -- as Chicago beat San Francisco.

Kyle Schwarber, Jason Heyward and Anthony Rizzo provided offensive support with home runs as the Cubs won their second in three games.

The victory was the second straight for Lester (3-2), who is now 5-1 lifetime against San Francisco.

Indians 8, Reds 7

Edwin Encarnacion homered twice against his former club, and Yan Gomes and Francisco Lindor also went deep, lifting Cleveland to a victory over Cincinnati.

Cleveland pounded Reds rookie left-hander Amir Garrett, who allowed seven runs and yielded a season-high four homers in five innings.

The Indians led 7-3 in the seventh, but Cincinnati's Adam Duvall singled home a run, and pinch hitter Eugenio Suarez's three-run homer off Bryan Shaw tied the score 7-7.

Mets 9, Padres 3

Michael Conforto hit two homers, including a leadoff homer that sparked a seven-run first inning, as New York cruised past San Diego.

The Mets have won three of four. The Padres have lost six of seven.

Conforto capped the first inning with a two-run single off Padres starter Jhoulys Chacin (4-4) and added a solo homer in the fourth.

Angels 4, Rays 0

Matt Shoemaker pitched 6 1/3 shutout innings, and Los Angeles opened the game with back-to-back home runs in an eventual win against slumping Tampa Bay.

Shoemaker (4-2) became the first Angels starter to win three straight decisions this year, and the Angels have won three straight. He gave up three hits and three walks while striking out five.

The Rays have dropped three straight at home, scoring a combined four runs in the defeats.

Red Sox 11, Rangers 6

Xander Bogaerts drove in a season-high three runs, had three hits and scored four times to lead Boston to a victory over sloppy Texas in the opener of a three-game series.

The win was the second straight for struggling Boston, with the Red Sox scoring 23 runs in the two games. The Rangers lost for the second time in three games but only the second time in their past 13.

Bogaerts, who came in hitting .320 but with no homers and just 12 RBIs, reached on an infield hit and scored in the third inning, singled home two runs and then scored in the fifth and singled home a run and scored in the sixth.

Astros 6, Tigers 2

Lance McCullers pitched five scoreless innings, and Houston added two critical insurance runs in the seventh inning of a win over Detroit.

McCullers (5-1) departed with a 3-0 lead, but Detroit center fielder Mikie Mahtook, who had the Tigers' lone hit on Monday, blasted a two-out, two-strike home run off Astros right-hander Michael Feliz to cut the deficit to one run in the top of the seventh.

Jake Marisnick had three hits for the Astros.

Blue Jays 4, Brewers 3

Kendrys Morales belted a two-run homer, and Toronto beat Milwaukee.

Blue Jays right-hander Joe Biagini, making his fourth career start, went 4 1/3 innings and allowed three runs, five hits and three walks but left with a one-run lead.

Toronto's bullpen preserved the advantage. Danny Barnes (1-2) got credit for the win after throwing 1 1/2 scoreless innings. Ryan Tepera stranded two runners in the seventh inning, Joe Smith tossed a shutout eighth, and Roberto Osuna worked around a two-out walk to Eric Sogard in the ninth for his seventh save.

Diamondbacks 5, White Sox 4

Jake Lamb hit a two-run homer and Chris Herrmann hit a solo shot as Arizona held on for a win over Chicago.

Paul Goldschmidt had two hits, including a first-inning RBI triple, and Yasmany Tomas added a pair of hits for the Diamondbacks.

The White Sox got a two-run homer from Todd Frazier and solo shots from Jose Abreu and Melky Cabrera.
