The duo hold a 0.31 second advantage over the rest of the field ahead of tomorrow's conclusion after clocking up a combined time of 1:46.07 minutes from their opening two runs.
Indeed no one in the field was able to touch them as the pair recorded the fastest times on both runs.
Canada's double Olympic champion Kaillie Humphries is second alongside teammate Melissa Lotholz while reigning world champion Elana Meyers Taylor and Lauren Gibbs are third, 0.33 seconds off the lead.
For the Brits, Mica McNeill and Natalie Deratt find themselves 11th, 1.29 seconds behind the Germans after accumulating an overall time of 1:47.36.
"We're right in the mix for our target position," said DeRatt, immediately after the end of the opening day's action.
"And the great thing about working with Mica is that we are very consistent, so we'll hope to get a little faster in the third and fourth runs.
"We're definitely still hungry for it. We'll stay positive and give it our all tomorrow. There was only around two tenths of a second between sixth and 13th after the first run, so anything can happen."
