Dillian Whyte took the vacant British heavyweight title after a bruising 10-round slug fest with Ian Lewison at the SSE Hydro Arena in Glasgow.
Lewison, the much heavier man, wore a kilt and from the first bell started throwing bombs with intermittent success.
Whyte, 28, began returning with haymakers and both men took their share of punches as the rounds moved on.
Understandably, however, the tempo dropped.
There was a similarity about the rounds as both men from Brixton grew increasingly tired.
Whyte, though, began to take control and sensed the title was there for the taking in the 10th round, jabbing Lewison's face almost at will.
And although the 35-year-old survived to hear the bell, referee Terry O'Connor accepted the retiral from Lewison's corner.
Earlier, Lytham St Annes' Scott Cardle made a successful defence of his British lightweight title with a six-round stoppage of Kevin Hooper.
Before the fight began there was a traditional 10-bell salute in tribute to Dundee boxer Mike Towell who died a week ago after losing to Dale Evans in an eliminator the night previously.
Right from the start Cardle, 27, looked sharper.
A cut over Hooper's eye opened up in round four and Cardle sensed his opponent was there for the taking, stepping up the pace in the fifth and carrying his accuracy of punch and aggression into the sixth.
As Hooper struggled to keep Cardle at bay, referee Marcus McDonnell stepped in after one minute and 53 seconds, considering the challenger to be in no position to continue.
It was unbeaten Cardle's third defence of his belt - albeit there was a draw against Sean Dodd - to take his record to 20-0-1.
