Fowler determined to make swift recovery

Agony came about just as quickly as ecstasy for rising British boxer Anthony Fowler last month but he has vowed not to let a lengthy spell on the sidelines defeat him.

Fowler was at one of the highest points of his fledgling career at the start of November after earning selection for Britain's new World Series of Boxing franchise, the Lionhearts.
His inclusion was expected to see him feature throughout the series, a cross between professional and amateur boxing involving ten group matches before the knockout stages.
Indeed Fowler was part of the first British team to compete, travelling to California to face America and knocking out middleweight Marquis Moore, however success came at a cost.
Fowler tore ligaments in his hand with the punch, ruling him out for five months, but, rather than bemoan his luck, he is determined to return as quickly as possible.
"I knocked out the American but I damaged my hand in the process. I was hoping to get some positive news but it is torn ligaments and that is five months out," said Fowler.
"I went from such a high to such a low, it's frustrating but that is boxing. I was over the moon with how it all was going but it came at a cost.
"To be honest that's it for me in terms of the World Series of Boxing. I have got to move on and still train and work on punching with my other hand.
"I have done well this year; I have been to six tournaments and won five golds. I have lost one fight in the whole year."
The group stages of the World Series of Boxing run until March before the knockout stages go through to May yet Fowler's injury is likely to rule him out even if Britain progress.
But, with the likes of Olympic silver medallist Fred Evans on the Lionhearts team and part of the British set up with him in Sheffield, Fowler is not short of advice should he need it.
"I have sparred with all of the British guys that went to the Olympics," he added. "And, of course, I want to go to European and World Championships.
"The World Championships are next year and that will be my first time at a major tournament should I get there but I know I can mix it with the best."
