World boxing's crisis-hit governing body AIBA has appointed Franco Falconelli as its acting interim president in place of the suspended Wu Ching-kuo.
Wu was suspended on Wednesday by AIBA's disciplinary commission in the wake of allegations of financial mismanagement, and following a protracted court battle between rival factions.
A majority vote among AIBA executive committee members confirmed Falconelli's appointment, which is expected to be officially ratified at an extraordinary congress next month.
In a short statement, AIBA's executive director William Louis-Marie said: "To date, 15 executive committee members (out of) 17 have voted in favour of Mr Franco Falconelli's appointment as the AIBA acting interim president until the final decision of the disciplinary commission is taken with respect to the suspension of the AIBA president, Dr Ching-kuo Wu."
