The 27-year-old, who fights Badou Jack for the WBC Super Middleweight title in August, was reportedly left unconscious after the incident, which took place while he was on board a boat with some Royal Marines.
But the injuries he has suffered are said to be minor, and will not affect his prospects of fighting Jack - a bout which will have a huge profile, since it is on the undercard of Floyd Mayweather's final fight in September.
""We can confirm that a minor incident took place on Monday afternoon as part of his preparation for his forthcoming WBC super-middleweight world championship fight with Badou Jack scheduled to take place in the United States in late August or early September," Groves' management Sauerland Promotions said in a statement.
"George was taken to hospital for precautionary checks but immediately released following the incident that took place while taking part in a boat activity with the Marines. The injury will not affect his preparations for the Jack fight and he will continue his training camp as planned."
Groves himself made light of the incident on Twitter:
He also posted a comic image on Instagram
Fans on social media were quick to pass on their sympathy - and almost as quick to start cracking jokes, once it was clear Groves is fine.
