Isaac Hlatshwayo from Soweto won the vacant IBO welterweight world title with a unanimous twelve round points decision over Joseph Makaringe in Kempton Park, South Africa.
While there was plenty of trash talk in the lead-up to the fight, Hlatshwayo 26-1 (9) put on an impressive boxing skills display against the aggressive 32 year-old Makaringe 30-4 (25) from Giyani.
Judge Terence Makaluza scored the fight 118-114, Judge Isaac Tshabalala 118-113 and Judge Roy Francis 114-113, all for Hlatshwayo.
Hlatshwayo's only loss was in his last fight against American Kendall Holt last November. The South African previously held the IBO lightweight world title in 2005 and 2006.
Also on the card, 29 year-old Silence Mabuza 20-2 (16) from Johannesburg won the vacant IBO bantamweight world title with a 5th round TKO win over 32 year-old Mbwana Matumla 17-3 (10) from Tanzania. Mabuza has twice lost to Mexican star Rafael Marquez and with this win, regained the IBO title belt he previously held.
Other results on the card:
Kgotso Motau KO1 Kabelo Ndlovu at middleweight.
Corrie Sanders W10 Daniel Bispo at heavyweight
Clint Walters KO1 Bully Muravha at heavyweight
Grant Fourie KO1 Jeremiah Joshua at lightweight
