Floyd Mayweather's perfect record went to 47-0 after an improved performance in his ill-tempered rematch with Marcos Maidana.

THE BIG FIGHT
After being dragged out of his comfort zone by Maidana in their first fight on Cinco de Mayo weekend, Mayweather was much more his usual self in their Las Vegas rematch and comfortably took all three judges' scorecards by 116-111, 116-111 and 115-112.
Overshadowing a decisive Mayweather points win, however, was an incident in the eighth round where Maidana appeared to bite the fingers of Mayweather during a clinch.
Maidana was eventually deducted a point for hurling Mayweather to the canvas, but other than a very impressive fourth round and edging a couple of other rounds, the Floyd Mayweather show resumed.
WHAT THEY SAID
Mayweather: "He bit my fingers so my hand was numb. After that round I couldn't use my left hand as much. I didn't want to just stay on the ropes. He's a tough opponent but I did what I had to do. I got a couple of bumps and bruises but I listened to my dad who always said hit and not get hit. I felt sharper than in the first fight. I'd give myself a C for that performance, though, maybe a C-. I got hit a few times and I know I'm better than that."
Maidana: "I prepared myself very well and thought I won the fight but if the referee prefers to give the fight to fighters who run, I can't do anything about that. I was the aggressor throughout. I kept my game plan but Floyd was holding and pushing and the referee only punished me. I did not bite him in the eighth round. Maybe they think I'm a dog. I never bit him. He had his glove right on my mouth but I did not bite him."
ROUND BY ROUND
Round 1: Elements of their first fight open up the second. Maidana attempts to bully and smother Mayweather, who picks his opponent off with choice shots. 10-9 Mayweather
Round 2: The tempo picks up as a pro-Maidana crowd gets more vocal. However Mayweather continues to outbox the Argentine, this time with increasingly more ‘show’ and aggression. 20-18 Mayweather
Round 3: Both fighters’ attempts to learn from the first fight now apparent as Floyd is working harder and more on the front foot while Maidana carries himself with more technical prowess. However the fight continues to go Floyd’s way despite a great Maidana shot on the bell. 30-27 Mayweather
Round 4: First Maidana round as ‘Chino’ troubles Mayweather with a series of hard shots. Mayweather out of his comfort zone but standing strong and picking off punches of his own. Despite that, it’s Marcos’ first round. 39-37 Mayweather

Round 5: Quiet round which is just what Mayweather would have wanted after the last. Back to drawing Maidana into circles and controlling the flow. 49-46 Mayweather
Round 6: Maidana just not doing enough, round four aside. Mayweather starting to show marks from Maidana shots earlier on but back in control. 59-55 Mayweather
Round 7: Mayweather may be showing the signs of a man being made to work by his opponent but he is well and truly back in control. Maidana struggling to find an opening to do what he did in the fourth. 69-64 Mayweather
Round 8: Great round. Maidana finally getting some hard shots away and Mayweather matching them shot for shot. Controversy late in the round as Floyd tells the ref: “He bit my ****ing hand!” Sour end to an open and even round. 79-74 Mayweather
Round 9: Perhaps still flustered from #bitegate, Mayweather lacks focus in the ninth and other than a couple of lovely shots at the end of the round is put under pressure throughout by Maidana. 88-84 Mayweather
Round 10: Maidana has a point deducted when he hurls Floyd to the canvas. The referee tells him he was warned about his conduct, which he was. Another round of Maidana aggression with a decent finish. Would have been a Marcos round but for the deduction. 98-93 Mayweather
Round 11: Floyd with a stylish start to the penultimate round, but warned for punching low. Rest of the round calms down but Mayweather remains in charge. Great right hand with a minute to go. 108-102 Mayweather
Round 12: Most fighters voluntarily touch gloves at the start of the last round. The ref has to ensure Floyd and Marcos do. An ill-tempered fight has nonetheless gone more decisively for Mayweather than the first, despite again being made to work and having to take some serious punches at times. He can afford to lose the last round, mostly evading Maidana’s hunt for a big KO finish. Unofficial Eurosport scorecard: 117-112 Mayweather
WHAT HAPPENS NEXT
Mayweather will likely run like clockwork in 2015, with fights in May and September. He said in his ringside interview he plans on fighting on Cinco de Mayo weekend once more, but his opponent remains to be arranged. Again he sidestepped talk of finally battling Manny Pacquiao, but rightly noted 'Pac-Man' needs to overcome Chris Algieri first.
Maidana will need to look elsewhere in the division for a big fight and resounding bounce-back. Despite his claims, he lost more decisively to Mayweather and for a second time - like Floyd will likely not return to the ring until next Spring. When asked what is next, he simply replied: "I want to go home".
