This winter will see the best of British talent take to the ring for the 2017 GB Boxing Championships, with the successful fighters potentially taking the first step towards the pinnacle of sport.
The Championships will feature ten weight-levels for men and five for women, pitting the best of England, Scotland and Wales against a current fighter from the GB Boxing squad in Sheffield this December.
The victorious athlete will then get the opportunity to join the World Class Performance Programme (WCPP) as a funded athlete, with performance director McCracken citing this as the perfect opportunity for new cream to rise to the top.
"This event is a great opportunity for the GB Boxing coaches and me to see some of the talent we have coming through and assess the boxers in an intense, competitive situation.," he said.
"We are only in the first year of the Tokyo Olympic cycle so there is still a lot of opportunity for boxers to force their way into the GB Boxing squad and then into contention for the 2020 Olympics.
"Several of the boxers that competed at the last Olympics did not join our squad until half way through the Rio cycle, so the door is always open to boxers that can show they have what it takes to succeed at the elite level."
