The ChampCar World Series will feature standing starts in 2007 as part of a raft of changes designed to spice up the action in the championships.
The new starting procedure will be used on every track where it is deemed safe to do so, and the series vice-president of operations Tony Cotman thinks it can only benefit.
"This should provide a very exciting start to our races," said Champ Car Vice-President of Operations Tony Cotman.
"Unlike Formula 1 where they have traction or launch control, the success of the standing starts in Champ Car will be up to the skill of the individual drivers. We will do the standing starts wherever the configuration of the track allows us to do so in a safe manner."
Other changes include races now being run to a time limit rather than a set amount of laps in attempt to make the series more attractive to TV companies, and teams now having free-reign to use their tyre allocation however they wish.
Teams will now also only be allowed to use one car per official session, with any driver switching to their spare car between qualifying and the race being forced to start from the back of the grid.
