Lancashire plan for WCSL bid

In June, the England and Wales Cricket Board revealed plans for a first season of the league, which is part of a £3million investment over four years.

And Lancashire on Tuesday confirmed they will be bidding to field a team, should their interest get ECB approval.

The first season of the league will be a Twenty20 competition, while 2017 is also expected to see the addition of a 50-over campaign.

"Should an invitation to tender be received the board will be putting together a very comprehensive bid for a team and will be aided by the ongoing support of the county club and the LCCC Foundation," Bobby Cross, vice chairman of the board of directors of the Lancashire Cricket Board, said.

"This is a very exciting time for the game and we are delighted to be at the forefront of it.

"The WCSL is a fantastic opportunity to further develop the game through a high-class competition at senior level, increased exposure for the game and increased investment at all levels and, having listened to all of the information provided, we have expressed interest in hosting one of the teams."
