The tourists are slowly but surely batting England out of the game, and while wickets fell steadily in the final session on Saturday England have a mountain to climb if they are to turn the match around.
England had Pakistan at 60-4 at one point before steadying the ship, add when they came back out after tea at 111-4 wickets fell only irregularly.
Asad Shafiq (49) and Sarfraz Ahmed (45) were both narrowly denied centuries, while Wahab Riaz went for a duck in the final over of the day - all three wickets went to Chris Woakes, who ended up with eye-catching figures of 5-31 at stumps.
Shafiq was particularly impressive, striking eight boundaries in his 96-ball innings before missing a straight ball from Woakes and seeing his stumps re-arranged.
The fine spell from Woakes will feel frustrating in the extreme should England end up losing - and with Pakistan's Yasir Shah resuming on 30 tomorrow morning alongside Mohammad Amir, there is every chance that the home side will need to chase down more than 300 on Sunday and Monday.
With the weather forecast excellent for the rest of the match, that means Alastair Cook's men would need the second-highest successful run chase ever seen in a Test match at Lord's if they are to avoid defeat.
Pakistan's coach wasn't entirely happy, however.
"A lead of 300 would be very nice tomorrow," Pakistan coach Mickey Arthur said.
"I'm disappointed that none of our batsmen pushed on today."

TEA REPORT

Pakistan's lead over England grew to 178 runs as they reached 111-4 at tea in their second innings on the third day of the first Test at Lord's.
England took the wicket of Pakstian opener Mohammad Hafeez for a duck as he was caught by Joe Root off Stuart Broad, giving the home side hopes of turning the match around at the home of cricket.

And while three more wickets went during the session, the tourists continued to build their score as they hit 111-4, with Younis Khan and Asad Shafiq unbeaten on 19 and 29 respectively at the interval.
Pakistan have a superb chance of setting a target of 300 or more, which would leave England staring down the barrel of a near-impossible run chase at a ground where big 4th innings scores are something of a rarity.

LUNCH REPORT

Pakistan's Yasir Shah took six wickets to dismiss England for 272 and hand Pakistan a first-innings lead of 67 on the third day of the first test at Lord's.
Yasir's leg spin outfoxed the hosts and his figures of 6-72 were the best recorded by a visiting spinner against England at Lord's since Sid Pegler's 7-65 for South Africa 104 years ago.

England lost their last three wickets for 12 runs on a slow pitch and added only 19 in total on Saturday morning, leaving the tourists with the chance to take a decent lead.
England resumed on 253 for seven with Chris Woakes unbeaten on 31 and Stuart Broad on 11 and were 86 runs shy of Pakistan's first-innings total after the tourists were dismissed for 339.
Broad only managed to add six runs to his total, however, before he fell to a full inswinger from Wahab Riaz.
The 30-year-old Yasir then trapped Steve Finn leg before for five and, with no reviews left, he had no choice but to walk.
Debutant Jake Ball was run out by Shan Masood as he looked for a second run to keep Woakes (35) on strike but was short by some distance as Pakistan wrapped up the England tail.
Ball had sliced his second ball behind square leg with an outside edge to record his first four test runs.
