Both teams went into the match with two wins and one washout, but Surrey had the two star performers in Steven Davies and the unheralded James Burke.
Davies followed up Tuesday's 99 against Northamptonshire with a 109-ball 98 as Surrey posted 271 for seven from their 50 overs, before Burke ripped through the hosts' middle order to restrict them to 222 all out in reply.
Outstanding fielding made the difference as Gloucestershire made it two wins in as many games with a one-run victory against Leicestershire at Grace Road.
Having compiled 315 for six thanks largely to Gareth Roderick's 118-ball knock of 104, Gloucestershire had Leicestershire on the ropes at 128 for five - but a 96-run partnership in 13.3 overs between youngsters Aadil Ali (84) and Michael Burgess (49) dragged the Foxes back into the game.
Rob Taylor's blistering 42 from just 23 balls meant Clint McKay required three off the last ball for victory - but Gloucestershire captain Michael Klinger pulled off a fine diving stop and run-out to earn his side back-to-back wins.
Tom Cooper's unbeaten 93 from 91 balls earned Somerset a 56-run win against Worcestershire at Taunton to secure their first points of the competition at the third time of asking.
The Australian followed up his century in the previous game against Durham by striking seven fours and three sixes in a total of 305 for seven after Somerset won the toss and chose to bat.
In reply, Worcestershire were soon in trouble at 28 for three and were eventually bowled out for 249, Ed Barnard top-scoring with 51, while Craig Overton, Jack Leach and Peter Trego claimed three wickets each.
A Billy Godleman century powered hosts Derbyshire to a seven-wicket victory over Northamptonshire - a result that keeps them firmly in the hunt for a quarter-final berth.
The 26-year-old opener plundered 109 from 158 balls and shared a 104-run second-wicket partnership with Wayne Madsen (52) to guide Derbyshire to their victory target with 10 balls to spare.
Northants were put in to bat first and, despite a century from Josh Cobb, were dismissed for 231 in 50 overs - a total Derbyshire had little difficulty in chasing down.
Meanwhile in Group B, Glamorgan picked up their second victory of the competition in crushing fashion as Colin Ingram and Graham Wagg's heroics with bat and ball earned them a 146-run victory against Essex in Cardiff.
Ingram blasted 130 from 144 balls, his second century in four days, and Wagg hit five fours and three sixes in a 46-ball cameo of 62 as the hosts posted 288 for six from their 50 overs.
Essex crumbled in reply with Ryan ten Doeschate (47) their only batsmen to acquit himself well before they were dismissed for 142 in 37.1 overs - with Ingram, Wagg, Craig Meschede and Dean Cosker taking two wickets apiece.
Middlesex produced an excellent all-round performance to beat Kent by 87 runs at Radlett and pick up their first victory in this year's competition.
Half-centuries by Nick Gubbins and James Franklin underpinned Middlesex's 50-over total of 260 for nine and only Sam Billings, with 68 from 83 balls, threatened in Kent's reply of 173 all out while Ollie Rayner shone with a four-for-45 haul.
