The European 5000m bronze medallist has enjoyed a busy year on the track, competing in the IAAF World Championships as well as the biggest stage in the sport, the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.
While she was to exit in the heat stage in Brazil, Twell enjoyed a run more than 30 seconds quicker than her Commonwealth Games runs on home soil in Glasgow 2014, crossing the line in 15:25.90.
It's efforts like those which the 27-year-old is delighted to boast and she is looking to round off the calendar year in scintillating style at an event which has almost become a home from home.
A trip to Chia, Italy, will be Twell's eighth time racing the European Cross Country Championships, an event she specifically eyed up when touching down from Rio.
"It's been a hugely satisfying year," she said. "I think I've got that contentment this year to give myself a pat on the back.
"I feel happy that everything I set out to achieve I did.
"After the Olympics, I just wanted to have a bit of downtime and just be slightly easier on myself because I had my foot on the pedal for quite a long time.
"My training is coming together, I'm piecing everything together and building the foundations again of my strength and conditioning as well as my volume.
"I'm thrilled to be on the (Great Britain) team because the girls raced very well, it was very competitive seeing them all so close.
"I'm really grateful to the selectors for choosing me and I feel like I will be able to contribute well to the team." Sportsbeat 2016
