Norway and Germany both kicked off their World Women’s Curling Championship campaigns with victories on the opening day of play in Esbjerg, Denmark.
Skip Linn Githmark was the star of the show for Norway as she scored two points in the final end to beat two-times Olympic champion Anette Norberg of Sweden 8-7.
"The team did everything right in the 10th, but my first (throw) went really straight and all the way through," Norberg said. "The second one was very heavy and it didn't go anywhere."
Meanwhile, defending champion Andrea Scheopp of Germany stole four points in the final end to register an 8-3 win over Denmark's Lene Neilsen.
Earlier, Crown Prince Frederik of Denmark had opened the event by throwing a ceremonial stone into the four-foot ring.
