First, Erikkson guided Sweden to a thrilling 8-7 victory in the tie-breaker to book a place in the play-offs and a 5-2 win over Switzerland.
It means that Sweden will face the losers of Saturday's clash between Norway and Canada for a place in the final against the winner.
Switzerland meanwhile, will await the losers of the semi-final in the shoot-out for bronze but after keeping his hopes of defending Sweden's world title won by compatriot Niklas Edin Erikkson was in bullish mood.
"It feels awesome to be in the semi-final," said Erikkson.
"Hopefully we can win two more games. It would mean everything to us, to win a World Championship. It's almost the biggest thing you can win in the sport, it would be really awesome.
"But Ive got big shoes to fill."
Against Japan, the two sides exchanged doubles in the opening two ends before Sweden opened up an 8-3 lead with three ends remaining.
And against Switzerland a steal of two in the fourth end gave Erikkson and co a 4-1 lead they didn't look like relinquishing.
Erikkson added: "The Switzerland match was such a good game for us getting that steal of two in the fourth end, that was really big. Then we could play simple curling."
