Murdoch and Scotland record back-to-back wins at World Championships

Skip David Murdoch insists Scotland's play-off hopes are well and truly alive after two victories on day two of the World Men's Curling Championships in Edmonton, Canada.

Scotland had lost their opener against Norway and looked to be up against it 24 hours later as they faced off against America and Japan, the nations that finished third and fourth respectively at last year's World Championship.
But despite the daunting task Murdoch and his rink did not buckle, with Scotland beating America 9-4 thanks to five shots in the eighth, before downing a previously unbeaten Japan 7-4 later that same day.
The result sees Scotland sat with five other teams with two wins and one loss so far, and Murdoch believes his rink are in a good position.
"We're obviously delighted," he said. "It's been a tough day against USA and Japan, two teams that were in the play-offs last year, and we came out and played really solid.
"We controlled the game [against Japan] from start to finish. We gave up a cheap two early but other than that we dominated the scoreboard.
"That was probably as good as this afternoon. I think we adjusted well to the ice. Once we were two up we were looking good and the guys played really solid.
"For us two and one is pretty good and we'll take it – it's a tough field here and we knew we needed two wins to keep our play-off hopes alive. We've done that, but it’s one step at a time."
Leading the way in Edmonton are hosts Canada, who beat Sweden 8-6 last time out to make it three wins from as many matches.
Sweden are one of those teams on two wins and one loss, as are Norway as they won 8-3 against Netherlands.
The Dutch have now lost all three of their matches, as have Russia who fell to a 9-6 defeat to China who picked up their first win after two opening losses.
