Playing with the hammer, Switzerland went 2-0 down after three ends but hit back with a treble in the third and by the time Silvana Tirinzoni added a single in the eighth her rink were 5-3 up with just two to play.
But Team Muirhead were not to be outdone though, hitting back with a treble of their own in the ninth to take a narrow lead into the final end.
And they grabbed a single in tenth to secure a 7-5 victory that saw last year's bronze medallists into the final – at the expense of the home favourites.
Joining them in the Saturday showdown will be Sweden, after Anna Hasselborg's rink eased past Italy to maintain their 100 per cent record in the championships so far.
The Swedes cruised through the round robin phase, winning nine out of nine – including a 5-2 win over Muirhead's rink in their very first match.
And in their semi-final it was second Agnes Knochenhauer who shone brightest with a 92 per cent draw success rate that saw the Swedes pick up two in the first end, one in the fifth, a treble in the seventh and a single in the ninth to win it 7-3 win an end to spare.
Italy will now play Switzerland in Friday's evening session to decide the winner of the bronze medal.
