Switzerland endured a tense end to their day but came through victorious as they needed a point in the final end to cement their 8-6 win over Norway.
Elsewhere during the evening session in St Gallen, Russia bounced back from their morning defeat to Norway with a heavy beating of Italy – taking the win 8-2 after eight ends.
The biggest win of the session went to the Netherlands, though, as they hammered Slovakia 12-1 in eight ends to sit joint fourth in the standings.
