Sweden topple Norway to seal world title in Canada

Reigning European champions Sweden were up from the off, stealing three points in the very first end when Norway's skip Thomas Ulsrud was long with his final draw of the end.

Norway did recover to draw the scores level at 3-3 but Sweden's skip Niklas Edin scored three more points with a delicate tap-up to put his side back in control.

Another three points in the seventh end took their lead out to 9-4 and when Norway could only hit and stay for one point in the eighth end, the game was up.

The Norwegians conceded the world title to Sweden before completing the ninth end as Edin celebrated his second world title – the first coming back in 2013 skipping a different Swedish team.

"This feels amazing, I'm so proud of my team. This is our first year together," said Edin, of his fellow teammates Oskar Eriksson, Kristian Lindstrom, Christoffer Sundgren, alternate Henrik Leek and coach Fredrik Lindberg.

"We focussed a lot after a bad start to get back in this event and we played so well in the Play-offs.

"This is almost the same feeling as the last one (2013) but now with a new team and with the way we won, the second half of that game was pure enjoyment out there.

"They got back in the game (after the three in the first end) so we had to re-focus. The ice changed from the other games but I'm so happy that the guys kept playing the way we did."

The latest men's world rankings were also released after the event with bronze medalists Canada remaining top, ahead of Sweden.

Norway meanwhile leapfrog Scotland/Great Britain into third after their silver in Halifax.
