After opening defeats to Italy and Japan, Scotland were looking to bounce back when they took to the ice against Sunday's opponents Finland in Canada.
Alternate David Murdoch replaced Duncan Fernie for the game but the Olympic silver medallist was unable to bring around a change of fortunes with the team going down 10-7 after an extra end.
Much of the damage was done early on, with the Scots losing single steals in the first two ends before Finland took a 6-2 lead at the half-time lead.
They rallied in the second-half with skip Ewan MacDonald hitting to score two in the sixth end and drawing for two in the ninth before a steal forced an extra end at 7-7.
But Finland skip Aku Kauste played an angle take-out to nudge back the Scottish counting stone to score three points for the win.
Scotland sat out the fifth session of play, in which Canada beat Sweden 8-6 to move into an outright lead in the table while MacDonald's men remain bottom with three losses.
"There weren't enough shots being made and to be fair to Duncie he said 'I'm struggling a little bit' and we thought a change would be a good thing," said MacDonald afterwards when asked about the change in line-up.
"David's here for that. We know he's a really good shooter, so we just wanted to mix things up. It did, but we just had a slow start, so it's just a case of being sharper out of the block."
