The British rider blitzed his personal best finish of 40th, set just last week in the Czech Republic.
After starting the race in 47th, he set a quick opening lap time and climbed into the top 25. He progressed to 11th place at the half-way stage.
And he continued his climb up the field, reining in the riders to reach as high as fifth, which he was beaten to in a sprint finish by Latvia's Martin Blums. Italian Nadir Colledani won the overall race.
Clacherty now sits 12th overall in the World Cup rankings after two rounds out of six.
After the race, Clacherty said: "What a race!! Thanks for the shout out on course, support was mega."
Earlier on Saturday, Dan Tulett finished 12th in the junior men's race as Germany's David List secured victory.
