Fan's painful attempt to grab Tour de France souvenir goes viral across web

A fan at the Tour de France has become an unlikely global star after his embarrassing tumble during a stage in Rotterdam.

The fan was standing in the city centre watching the peloton whizz past at 60km/h when one of the riders tossed aside an empty water bottle.

Sensing his chance to grab a slice of memorabilia, the fan dived - and hard - to try and get to the empty bottle before any rival fan.

But that's where his powers of athleticism let him down: his leap for the water bottle was more of a belly flop than a swan dive, and he ended up just crashing to the tarmac.

Worse still, the whole thing was captured by another fan who was videoing the race whoosh past - and they shared it on the web for everybody to have a chuckle.
