Katie Archibald wins women's points race on day one of Track World Cup in Canada

Great Britain struck gold on the opening day of the Track World Cup in Canada as Katie Archibald won the women's points race.

The 23-year-old dominated from the start, winning the first four sprints of the race in Milton.

Archibald was one of four riders to gain a lap and she scored points in all but the last of the eight sprints to finish nine points clear of second-placed Jasmin Duehring of Canada.

Fellow Scot Mark Stewart added a silver in the men's points race.

The 22-year-old won two of the 12 sprints and scored in four others to earn 19 points.

Denmark's Niklas Larsen, who was the only rider to gain a lap, finished 21 points clear of Stewart.

In the team sprint qualifiers, Phil Hindes, Joe Truman and Jack Carlin were third fastest in the men's event while the women's team, consisting of K aty Marchant and Sophie Capewell, came through in fourth.
