American Mara Abbott won stage five of the Giro Rosa to seize the overall lead in her bid for a third title.
Abbott (Wiggle-High5), the 2010 and 2013 champion, won Wednesday's 77.5km route from Grosio to Tirano, taking control of the race on the 12km Mortirolo ascent.
Briton Emma Pooley (Lotto-Soudal) stayed with Abbott, but lost contact on the descent as Evelyn Stevens (Boels Dolmans) relinquished the pink jersey.
Elisa Longo Borghini, Abbott's Wiggle-High5 team-mate, won the sprint for second, 37 seconds behind, from Tatiana Guderzo (Hitec Products).
Abbott leads by 10 seconds from Megan Guarnier (Boels Dolmans), with Longo Borghini five seconds further back.
Thursday's sixth stage is the 118.6km route from Andora to the concluding ascent of Madonna della Guardia, where Abbott is likely to try to enhance her lead.
