Marcel Kittel wins Tour Down Under warm-up

Marcel Kittel (Giant-Alpecin) edged a sprint finish to win the People’s Choice Classic in Adelaide for the second successive season.

The German pipped Juan Jose Lobato (Movistar) and Wouter Wippert (Drapac) after the 51 kilometre, 30 lap criterium – a prelude to the Santos Tour Down Under which commences on Tuesday.

"It's actually impossible to control in such a big race," Kittel said.

"I think my boys did an awesome job. We always try to come back and stay together as much as possible and in the end it was sort of a good lead out with all the chaos. It's a great start to the season."
