The peloton will have to pass the Furka (2.436 m/HC), Oberalp (2.046 m /Cat.1) and Albula (2.315 m/ HC) Alpine pases before the finish as Team Würth's Angel Vicioso aimed to defend his leader's jersey.

With T-Mobile turning up the throttle on Wednesday and Jan Ullrich a mere 16 seconds back, Thursday could be the day, warned Pevenage:

"Jan's feeling good, very good," he warned.
