Trott and Archibald claim second Euro Track Champs gold

The pair had teamed up with Elinor Barker and Ciara Horne on Thursday to take the team pursuit title and they rounded off a successful Championships by taking individual gold as Great Britain finished on six golds in total.

Trott was lying third going into the final day having finished fourth in the scratch and individual pursuit as well as first in the elimination on Saturday.

A win in the 500m time trial moved her into second place, just two points adrift of Jolien D'Hoore of Belgium, before another victory in the flying lap left the two tied on 188 points ahead of the points race.

There was little between them in the early sprints before Olympic champion Trott beat the Belgian on the line in the final sprint to take the title by just one point with a total of 199.

Archibald, meanwhile, was dominant in the individual pursuit, going four seconds faster than any of her challengers in qualifying to leave her as favourite against Mieke Kroger of Germany in the final.

And the 20-year-old stepped it up another notch in the gold medal race, carving seven seconds off her qualifying time to clock 3:40.136 over the 3000 metres to take victory by two seconds while teammate and world champion Joanna Rowsell was fifth.

Katy Marchant was eighth in the keirin, finishing as runner-up in the minor final, while Rosie Blount exited in the first round repechage.

Newly-crowned European kilometre time trial champion Callum Skinner also made the final of the keirin, finishing 12th overall, while Matt Crampton failed to make it past the repechage stage.

Mark Christian and Owain Doull were also seventh in the men's madison with Great Britain finishing the five-day competition with eight medals, with one silver and one bronze adding to the gold medal haul.
