Wiggins' main focus over the next 12 months will be on securing a place in the Olympic squad for the team pursuit in Rio.
However he is not cutting ties with the road completely and with his eponymous squad – launched to further his track ambitions – set for an invite to the 2015 Amgen Tour of California, Wiggins confirmed his interest in taking part.
The 35-year-old won the 2014 edition with Team Sky, including winning the time trial on stage two.
The race will depart this time from San Diego on May 15 and finish in Sacramento eight days later, with Wiggins full of praise for the route after it was announced on Thursday night.
"The Amgen Tour of California brings the perfect combination of stellar competition, amazing scenery and superior organisation," he said.
"I look forward to returning to the Amgen Tour of California with Team Wiggins to once again take on the top competitors in the sport."
