Team Sky sports director Servais Knaven has insisted Bradley Wiggins is on track for the Paris-Roubaix race despite finishing the Tour of Qatar in 78th place.
Olympic champion Wiggins placed third in the time-trial stage on Tuesday but he failed to figure among the leading riders in the overall classification with Dutchman Niki Terpstra retaining his title in the six-stage Qatar race while Irish rider Sam Bennett took the final stage win.
Terpstra won last year's Paris-Roubaix one-day classic in northern France, an event Wiggins has pinpointed as a major goal in 2015.
The 150-mile race takes place on April 12 with the seven-time Olympic champion then turning his attentions to the track as he aims to try and qualify for the 2016 Games in Rio.
And Knaven is confident the 34-year-old is heading in the right direction for a tilt at success in the iconic Spring event.
"Brad is where he need to be. He's looking strong and has been doing a lot of extra work out here before and after the racing," said Knaven.
"It's been a good training block for him and he's grown in stature as the race has gone on. This was a big step in terms of his preparations for the Classics, and we're only two weeks away now.
"He'll continue to build up his training over the next fortnight and we'll do some reconnaissance work to make sure he's ready for the races."
