Ward, who was recently named on the short list with both horses HH Azur and Rothchild for the USA Olympic Jumping Team for Rio 2016, moves four places from fourth to take over top spot from France’s Simon Delestre, who had held the world number one spot since March, and is now second.
Germany’s Christian Ahlmann, the current leader of the Longines Global Champions Tour, is close behind both in third spot on the latest rankings list issued up to 31 May 2016.
France’s Penelope Leprevost, climbs one position up to fourth, with Great Britain’s Scott Brash falls from third to now fifth.
USA’s Kent Farrington is the only rider keeping his position from last month in sixth place. France’s Kevin Staut and Belgium’s Gregory Wathelet change positions now being seventh and eighth respectively, while Germany’s Daniel Deusser makes it back into the top ten in ninth position.
Ireland’s Bertram Allen drops one position and is now at ten, while USA’s Beezie Madden falls out of this prestigious list down to rank eleven.
Outside of the top ten, Germany’s Marcus Ehning climbs eight places from 23 to 15. The Belgian duo of Jerome Guery and Olivier Philippaerts also make good movements, Guery going up 11 places from 34 to 23 and Philippaerts up eight from 36 to 28.
There are two other significant movements inside the top 50 with USA’s Todd Minkus and Italy’s Piergiorgio Bucci both moving up eleven places; Minkus going from 46 to 35 and Bucci from 54 to 43.
Below them Chile’s Samuel Parot moves up 14 places from 68 to 54, Ireland’s Billy Twomey jumps from 69 to 59, and Canada’s Tiffany Foster climbs 11 places from 74 to 63.
Sweden’s Peder Fredricson moves up from 88 to 75, whilst Spain’s Eduardo Alvarez Aznar enjoys one of this month’s biggest climbs going up 28 places from 104 to 76.
The biggest move is reserved for Colombia’s Daniel Bluman who goes up 30 places from 108 to 78, whilst another Colombian rider, Carlos Lopez Lizarazo, also makes a sizeable jump going up 25 places from 120 to 95.
Either side of him, a trio of riders from the USA cap off a useful month for American showjumpers on the Longines Rankings by breaking back into the top 100. Reed Kessler moves up 14 places from 102 to 88, Jessica Springsteen climbs 23 places from 115 to 92, with Georgina Bloomberg going from 108 to 100.
