Riding Al Capone, the Hong Kong rider produced another fine display of riding to win the final event of the 2016 China League campaign and also secure a place at next year’s FEI World Cup Jumping Final in Omaha, USA.
Twenty four horse and rider combinations came forward to contest the last leg of the Longines FEI World Cup Jumping China League, with only three producing clear rounds and making it through to the final jump-off round.
Having been fastest in the first round, Lam and Al Capone were the only combination to go double clear as they completed the shortened track in a time of 45.74 seconds.
Switzerland’s Clarissa Crotta on Wavanta took runners-up with four faults and a time of 44.94 seconds. China’s Zhiwen (Daniel) Zhao (China) on Fancyface took third place coming through the finish line in the quickest time of 44.68 seconds but with eight faults to their record.
Victory for Lam also confirmed his place at the top of the 2016 Longines FEI World Cup Jumping China League. His tally of 66 points from the scheduled four events put him out in front ahead of China’s Ciren Bianba in second with 44 points and Hong Kong’s Kenneth Cheng in third on 42 points.
The previous legs of the 2016 Longines FEI World Cup Jumping China League had seen the cancellation of the scheduled first leg of competition at Gwacheon in Korea.
Great Britain’s Ben Maher then won the second leg in Beijing in April before Bianba claimed victory in the third leg also held in the Chinese capital in May.
