The competition site in Treffen, the Glock Horse Performance Center, is known not only for its beautiful forest-covered surroundings, but also its VIP atmosphere, with surprise artists flown in for evening concerts. And while the media has not traditionally been welcome on-site, the competition can be followed via the event’s own web site.
Laura Renwick (with her mounts Bintang II, Dominant H, and MHS Washington) is the sole representative from Great Britain listed for the event, while the Irish will be present in the form of Bertram Allen (Christy Jnr, Dino W, Molly Malone V), Denis Lynch (All Star 5, Ho Go Van de Padenborre, Limelight 42) and Cian O’Connor (Callisto, Copain du Perchet CH — in his first 5* event with O’Connor — and Skyhorse).
Treffen (the word can mean to ‘meet’ and to ‘hit’ in German) is also hosting other top-level riders like Lorenzo de Luca from nearby Italy (Ensor de Litrange LXII, Limestone Gray), the Netherlands’ Maikel VAN der Vleuten (Dana Blue, VDL Groep IDI Utopia, VDL Groep Quatro), Switzerland’s Steve Guerdat (Bianca, Corbinian, Ulysse des Forets), Marcus Ehning (Comme Il Faut 5, Cristy, Gin Chin Van Het Lindenhof), the U.S.’s Laura Kraut (Constable II, Deauville S, Hello Guv’nor), and France’s Simon Delestre (Chadino, Chesall Zimequest)… The list goes on…
This CSI 5* at the Glock Center, named after the arms maker Glock, is an independent event which nevertheless offers riders the opportunity to gain Longines FEI Rankings points with an eye toward the Global Champions Tour, huge prize purses, and a possible qualification for the 2017 European Championships, scheduled for August 21-27 in Gothenburg, Sweden.
