Kajetan Kajetanowicz had plenty of reason to celebrate at the finish of Rally di Roma Capitale – despite losing out on victory on the FIA European Rally Championship counter by 0.3s.
Kajetanowicz was beaten into the runner-up spot on the last stage of the event but, crucially, managed to extend his title lead to 24 points with one event remaining: next month’s gravel-based Rally Liepāja in Latvia.
“It doesn’t matter if I won or was second, it was a big battle so well done to him,” said the LOTOS Rally Team driver. “The main objective was to keep our position in the European championship. That wasn’t easy but we are still fighting and I hope that we can do that to the end.”
