As the winner of the inaugural Spanish Beca Júnior R2 title alongside co-driver Sara Fernández, 22-year-old Efrén Llarena will step up to the FIA ERC Junior Under 27 Championship in 2018 with the full support of RFEDA, the Spanish federation. This is what he had to say following his major career breakthrough.
Describe your feelings after winning this prize?“I´m very happy with the prize and with the progress of this season and we hope to have the best possible team next year, in order to fight against Opel.”

How important is this opportunity for you and your future career?“It's very important for me. We don´t have great resources and we are here because many friends have supported us and it is a great opportunity for us to show our capacity and that we can do it really well at higher level.”

What do you hope to learn and achieve in 2018?“Increase our rhythm, learn from European rallies and accumulate kilometres. Of course the goal is always to win, but learning from others is really important.”

What is your opinion of the work your federation is doing to help young drivers?“It’s perfect because people like me, of my age, don´t have the resources to go to abroad and racing in Europe by ourselves. There should be more projects like these.”

And turning to the ERC, what do you know about the championship, the events and the competition?“There is a very high level and I know that the rallies are very complicated, like Barum, over asphalt. It´s a championship with great prestige and international recognition, in which you have the chance to fight against young people from all over Europe.”
