Ingram had won the first three stages of the rally to head team-mate Griebel by 16.2s, and although the German won SS4, he then broke the steering on his Opel Adam R2 on the following test. "I was too deep in a cut and I hit a pole," he explained. He stopped after the stage to try and fix the issue before continuing.

With Griebel losing nearly a minute, dropping him to fifth, Ingram was able to catch him towards the end of the stage, but was still fastest. "I hope he can carry on, I want it to be a fight like it has been all year," said the Briton. Although Ingram leads Griebel by 11 points before this weekend, dropped scores meant Griebel could have claimed the title this weekend if he scored maximum points.

Łukasz Pieniążek is up to second in his privateer Adam having headed works driver Julius Tannert since the first stage of the morning. An overshoot also dropped Tannert behind Nikolay Gryazin.
