FIA ERC Junior Under 28 Championship contender Josh Moffett will start the season-opening Azores Airlines Rallye later this month full of confidence following his victory on the West Cork Rally in his native Ireland last weekend.
Driving a Ford Fiesta R5, Moffett and Irish co-driver James Fulton had been in contention throughout the asphalt event, the opening round of the FIA Celtic Trophy, which was run in wet and windy conditions.

Third place became first when erstwhile leader Sam Moffett – Josh’s older brother – suffered a puncture late in the event that promoted his sibling to the lead ahead of Alastair Fisher with just two stages left to run.

The new-for-2017 ERC Junior U28 offers a one-off drive on a European round of the 2018 World Rally Championship to its eventual champion. Moffett, 24, plans to contest a minimum of four ERC Junior U28 events, starting with the Azores spectacular from 30 March-1 April.

Meanwhile, Moffett’s ERC Junior U28 rival Marijan Griebel was also in action at the weekend, contesting the Rebenland Rallye in Austria. Co-driven by Stefan Kopczyk in a ŠKODA Fabia R5, Griebel had impressed, climbing to third overall when a broken turbo put him out with three stages remaining.
